David and Laura did a fantastic job on this fitting for a very happy customer in Barnet.
They installed the following over 1 in order to create safe and easy access into and around the loft.
BOARDING
The Boarding is a great way of utilizing the loft’s previously unusable space into a great area to store items on of which is also safe to walk on. The boarding is installed in lines (rather than staggered), they are installed on top of the timbers of which are set out for the boarding to be laid in lines. This also helps should the customer need to get below the boarding they can raise approximately 5 boards rather than all of the boarding if it was to be staggered
TIMBERS
The boarding has been raised on timers for a number of reasons:
The timbers are installed at 90 degrees to the existing joists of which helps spread the weight of anything stored on the boards and whilst walking across the boarded area. This also helps to prevent any cracking of the ceiling below.
The timbers raise the boards high enough in order to give the insulation below room to breathe and to stop any compression.
The timbers also allow for obstructions below the boarding such as pipe work and electrics.
INSULATION
The loft insulation is installed with 100mm running between the joists and 170mm running at 90 degrees to the 100mm – bringing it to the recommended 270mm. Laying it as such correctly stops thermal bridging. The insulation is a great way to help with the home’s energy efficiency helping the home to feel warmer during winter and cooler in the summer.
Loft Insulation should be one of the first measures to consider before upgrading or installing Solar Panels, Heat Source Pumps and Boilers.
BENEFITS OF LOFT INSULATION
The insulation will help to lower your monthly/yearly bills by an estimated 20%.
Having loft insulation and draught proofing installed is one of the most cost effective ways of maintaining heat in your home.
The insulation will help with your Energy Performance Rating (EPC
